Do I need an egress window?
If the basement will have a bedroom, yes. Section R310 of the New Jersey edition of the International Residential Code requires an emergency escape and rescue opening for basement sleeping rooms.
Do I need a permit to finish a basement?
Yes. Framing, wiring and plumbing all need a construction permit under N.J.A.C. 5:23-2.14.
